"The Seer" (c) Mayumi Ogihara
Hello blogging frieds!
Once again it's time for featured artist of the month. This month our guest artist is Mayumi Ogihara.
I came across Mayumis works just early this spring when I attented to art auction groups on fb. I think her drawings are beautiful and full with magic. I myself don't have much patient with pencils but after seeing these magical portraits I'm inspired to try.
Please introduce yourself. Who you are and what kind of artist you are?
My name is Mayumi Ogihara. I'm self-taught pencil artist. Born in 1965 in Saitama, Japan, and moved to Vancouver, Canada when I was 24. I'm currently living on Vancouver Island with my husband and two sons.
Art has always been part of my life. Many of my family members have artistic and creative minds and ever since I was a child I have been influenced by their beautiful creations. I like all sorts of arts and crafts, but particularly enjoy drawing. I've always been facinatied by the simple beauty of art created using nothing more than a pencil and paper.

How did you start your artist career/hobby? What are your artistic dreams?
In the beginning of my drawing career I was mainly working on comissioned portraits. About 3 years ago, I discovered a passion and love for creating fantasy art, and I've been enjoying and exploring the endless possibilities the fantasy world offers.
I love to create drawings that tell stories and show emotions that touch viewer's hearts.
What are the things that inspire you to create? and do you have a message in your art?
Beauty of all kinds always inspires me. Anything that flutters my heart makes me want to draw and capture those moments in my special way.
My artwork doesn't have a strong message, but rather displays subtle emotions that people can identify. I also hope the fantasy elements in my drawings will remind viewers of the joy and wonder of magic and imagination we all once had as children.

Any advices and tips for starting artists?
Don't let others to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. Art is what's created from your heart. That is why every artwork is unique and beautiful in its own way.
Nurture your heart and mind. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty that's all around you. Live life, read books or watch movies to enrich your senses. When your heart and mind are well fed, the artist within you will be freed.
